A little bit about hair dye & colour
Hair dyes are amazing because they can be done directly from the comfort of your own home. With the spawn of the internet and the beauty community, there are plenty of hair dye tutorials that show you the step by step process of dying your hair.

Ammonia free hair dye is becoming a hot commodity. Previously hair dye included ammonia when manufactured. If exposed to enough of it it can be deadly to humans so this is a great step in the right direction.
One tip we must stress when dying your hair is to please take care and also know which dye you are purchasing. We will cover the different hair dye related products below, however this tip must be stressed. Before dying your full head, you can swatch the dye to check the shading and colour. Alternatively you can dye a small patch of your hair also.

Semi Permanent and Permanent Hair Colour
Depending on your situation, whether it's work, school, family life you may want different hair dye types. The main two we stock are Semi Permanent and Permanent Hair Colour.
They are straightforward to understand. Semi-permanent dyes tend to last for 6-8 weeks before they start needing a fresh coat. Permanent dyes last a little longer as indicated by their name.
Semi permanent dye doesn't last as long as Permanent dyes, which means they are technically more expensive due to needing to apply more Semi permanent dye to your hair. Also if you have greying hair, semi permanent is less effective in covering them.
Permanent hair dye can potentially be more damaging to your hair and scalp so be considerate on your dye choice depending on your hair type and scalp condition.

Foils
Foils are an extra product that you can buy when changing the colour of your hair. Whilst not essential it is important to know where foils are necessary.
If you are dying or highlighting a specific part of your hair, then foils are a necessary purchase. By using foils you can easily separate out your hair from the non dyed parts which gives you more control over the style and direction.
Whilst we stock Foils at My Hair and Beauty there are easy alternatives. Such as ‘balayage’ which is a similar option to foil, but is considered to be lower maintenance.
Toner
Toners and dyes are seen to be the same thing because they change the appearance of your hair, however they aren’t. Toner is more gentler on the hair making it a good alternative to dyes for those with sensitive scalps.
Brightening your hair or darkening your hair is a great way to enhance its appearance without giving away too much commitment.
Peroxides
You may have heard about Peroxide(s) in science classes back in school. They cause an unharmful reaction to your hair causing the colour to naturally change. It can be considered more permanent than dyes. Using Peroxides in your hair is an easier alternative than completely dying or redying your hair.
You can simply apply peroxide to your hair or a specific part to your hair to lighten it up as much you require. This is a more convenient method of changing up your hair colour style and considerably cheaper on your bank balance.
However this may come at a cost.
Using peroxide in your hair can cause the cuticles to be damaged, causing a dry texture to your hair when touched. It can also bring out split ends and frizz. Using a conditioner regularly can treat your hair if it becomes damaged from peroxide.
Once your hair has been treated with peroxide we recommend using a colour stay shampoo so the colouring is not affected by washing your hair.

Stain Remover
When dying your hair you may get to a point where you want to change the colouring, shade or intensity of the appearance. You might also have accidents from time to time, hair dye can stain your scalp so it’s great to have a remover handy in case you need to lift off any extra stains or colouring,
Our stain remover range can easily remove tints, permanent and semi permanent hair dyes. Stain removers are great if your circumstances change or you have to change your appearance for work and/or the workplace.
Colour Stay Shampoo
