When does the 2022 Notting Hill Carnival start?

The Saturday of the Notting Hill Carnival is known as the family day, and there is an early start. There will be activities from 6 am, so if you or your loved ones are early risers, there will be plenty to enjoy at an early hour.

On Sunday 28th August, parades start at 10 am and on the Bank Holiday Monday, there is a slightly later start time of 1030am. Given that many attendees (and performers) will have already enjoyed two days, it makes sense that the third and final day has a later start time.

Where is the 2022 Notting Hill Carnival taking place?

As the name suggests, the Notting Hill Carnival takes place in and around Notting Hill, but as the festival is so huge, it cannot be contained to just one area! You’ll find events and activities in Ladbroke Grove, Kensal Road, Westbourne Park and Westbourne Grove. The postcode areas to look out for are W10 and W11.

When was the first Notting Hill Carnival?

The first open-air event of this nature in Notting Hill took place in 1966. Since then, the Carnival has grown into one of the leading carnivals in the whole world, with only the Rio Carnival being larger. Given the 2019 and 2020, Notting Hill Carnivals didn’t take place; you can expect the 2022 event to be immensely popular, and, understandably, people want to look and feel their best.

Wear something bright and colourful to stand out in the crowd

Top hair care tips for the Notting Hill Carnival

Your hair is one of the first things people will notice about you, so you want to ensure it looks its best. If you’re attending the Notting Hill Carnival, then there are a few hair care tips you should bear in mind to ensure your locks look fabulous.

If you have something extravagant in your hair for the event, make sure you use a strong hold hairspray to keep everything in place. No one wants their headdress to fall off in the middle of the Carnival!

If you’re going to be dancing all day, you’ll want to use a leave-in conditioner to help keep your hair hydrated. Dry shampoo is also your friend, as it will help to absorb any excess oil and keep your hair looking fresh. Another way to be creative with your hair is to add some colour for the Carnival, and you have plenty of options to consider.

Finally, don’t forget to pack a hat or headscarf to protect your hair from the sun. Notting Hill can get very hot, so you’ll want to protect your hair from heat. Even a wig is an option to bear in mind when you want to change your look and protect your hair.

With these hair care tips in mind, you’re sure to have a great time at the Notting Hill Carnival, with your hair looking its absolute best.

Choose comfortable shoes that will allow you to dance all day long

Notting Hill is all about having fun and dancing the day away, so you’ll want to make sure you’re wearing comfortable shoes that will allow you to do just that.

Opt for a pair of flats or sneakers that you can easily dance in, and avoid wearing heels or anything that will make your feet sore. You’ll be on your feet all day, so you must ensure you’re comfortable.

Sunscreen is a must

Notting Hill can get very hot, so you’ll want to make sure you’re wearing sunscreen to protect your skin from the sun. Choose a high SPF sunscreen and reapply it throughout the day and evening.

Accessorise with jewellery for a fun and festive look

Notting Hill is about being positive and having fun, so make sure your outfit reflects that.

Accessorize with statement earrings, bracelets and necklaces to really stand out from the crowd. Even something simple as having your nails down in a glamorous way is more than enough for you to add a touch of sparkle to a special occasion.

Whether you intend on keeping your fashion sense on point as usual or want something unique for the grand occasion, do you, and make sure you have a brilliant time! This includes staying hydrated and eating every so often to ensure your dance moves don’t flag.
